國防部指出，國軍在花蓮、台東、宜蘭、苗栗、台中、台南、高雄及屏東等處都有預置兵力，另外，為執行山區緊急搜救任務，陸軍航特部也編成14個蒐報小組共99人，依指令進駐宜蘭大同、高雄那瑪夏、南投信義等山區，協助民眾撤離、災情蒐報、緊急救援等任務。
國軍也根據氣象預報資料強化災防工作，目前國軍以恆春半島為災防重點，已經要求作戰區加強各項整備工作，以即時執行救援任務，由於莫蘭蒂颱風後頭，還有一個馬勒卡颱風也朝台灣前進，國防部表示，國軍會提高警覺做好整備工作以投入各項災防工作，進一步確保國人生命安全。
